In 2026, when people search for it, they can end up with four very different products: Meta's official WhatsApp Plus subscription, the classic WhatsApp Plus mod by AlexMods, WhatsApp Plus builds in linked mode from other developers, and the other mods that are still maintained, such as GBWhatsApp and OBWhatsApp. They differ in price, in features and, above all, in how much risk they put on your account.

Before you download anything, it is worth knowing which of these you actually want. If you only care about extra colours and more pinned chats, the official subscription may be enough. The official WhatsApp Plus from Meta

On May 27, 2026, Meta launched an optional paid subscription called WhatsApp Plus, together with Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus. It had been tested first in the Android beta from April 2026 and then on iOS, before rolling out worldwide. This is the only “WhatsApp Plus” that is genuinely official: it lives inside the normal WhatsApp app from Google Play or the App Store and is billed through your store account.

The price depends on your country. In the United States it costs US$2.99 per month, in Europe €2.49 per month, and in markets such as Pakistan and Mexico it is priced locally (PKR 229 and MX$29 per month in 2026). Some accounts are offered a free trial. The plan renews monthly and you can cancel it at any time from Google Play or the App Store.

It is important to understand what it is not. Meta's subscription is mainly cosmetic: it does not change how messaging works and it does not add mod-style tools such as anti-delete or hiding blue ticks beyond WhatsApp's normal privacy settings. What official WhatsApp already does in 2026 (without mods)

A few years ago, many people installed WhatsApp Plus for features the official app simply did not have. That has changed. Between 2025 and 2026, WhatsApp added a long list of options that make a mod unnecessary for many users:

On top of that, official WhatsApp now has threaded replies, a dedicated iPad app and an Apple Watch app. What it still does not offer is anti-delete, hiding blue ticks only for some contacts, status downloads or full theme editing. If those are the features you want, a mod such as WhatsApp Plus is still the only way to get them. What is WhatsApp Plus APK?

WhatsApp Plus is a modified version of the official WhatsApp Messenger for Android. Modders take the original app, change its code and add features that WhatsApp itself does not offer, then distribute the result as an APK file you install manually. Why is it called “the blue WhatsApp”?

From the very beginning, WhatsApp Plus swapped the official green colour for a bright blue header and icon. Is there an “original” WhatsApp Plus?

Because many people have used the WhatsApp Plus name over the years, dozens of copies exist online, and some of them are fake or bundled with adware. When people talk about the original WhatsApp Plus today, they usually mean the actively maintained blue build from AlexMods, which receives regular updates to stay compatible with WhatsApp's servers. Because WhatsApp Plus is not on Google Play, you install it from an APK file. The process takes about five minutes. If you already use official WhatsApp on the same number, do the backup step first so you do not lose your conversations.

WhatsApp Plus for PC and Windows

There is no native Windows or Mac version of WhatsApp Plus. The mod is an Android app, so on a computer you have two realistic options. The first is to run it inside an Android emulator, a program that creates a virtual Android phone on your PC. You install the emulator, drag the WhatsApp Plus APK into it and set it up exactly as you would on a phone.

The second option is to keep WhatsApp Plus on your phone and use WhatsApp's linked devices feature with WhatsApp Web or the desktop app. This works with many builds, but the extra Plus features such as anti-delete and hidden ticks usually only work on the phone itself, not on the computer. Linking can also be unreliable on some mod versions.

WhatsApp Plus for iPhone (iOS)

Let's be clear: there is no genuine WhatsApp Plus for iPhone. WhatsApp Plus is built on the Android version of WhatsApp and is distributed as an APK, a file format iPhones cannot install. Websites offering a “WhatsApp Plus IPA” or a “WhatsApp Plus iOS download” are usually offering something else: a sideloaded tweak with its own risks, a fake page designed to show ads, or an attempt to get you to install a configuration profile you should not trust.

If you use an iPhone, your safest option is the official WhatsApp from the App Store, which has gained features like chat lock, hiding online status from selected contacts and higher-quality media sending. Is WhatsApp Plus safe?

This is the most important question on the page, and the honest answer is: WhatsApp Plus carries real risks, and no one can guarantee it is safe. That does not mean it is automatically dangerous, but you should understand the three main concerns before installing it.

• Account bans. WhatsApp's terms of service forbid unofficial clients. Accounts using mods can be temporarily banned and, after repeated violations, permanently banned. Anti-ban features claimed by developers reduce detection at best; they do not eliminate it.
• Fake and infected APKs. Because the app is not on Google Play, anyone can upload a modified copy with spyware or adware. This is the biggest danger, and it depends heavily on where you download from.
• Privacy and trust. The mod's code is closed and not audited. You are trusting an anonymous developer with an app that handles all your messages. Official WhatsApp is also closed, but it is backed by a company with legal obligations.

On our own test phones we scan every APK before installation and check that the app asks only for the permissions WhatsApp normally needs: contacts, storage or media, camera, microphone, notifications and phone state. An app that asks for accessibility access, device administrator rights or SMS reading beyond verification should raise a red flag.

Some people look for older builds of WhatsApp Plus because a newer release has a bug on their phone or because their device runs an older Android version. The table below lists previous versions. 2. Back up your chats from inside WhatsApp Plus if the app still lets you open settings.
3. Wait for the timer to end. Do not try to get around it.
4. Move to the official WhatsApp from Google Play. Install it, verify your number and restore your local backup. WhatsApp's own ban message typically asks you to do exactly this.
5. If you want to keep using a mod afterwards, understand that a second ban is more likely and may be permanent. Consider using the mod only on a secondary number.

About “anti-ban” versions: developers describe their builds as having anti-ban protection, and some builds are indeed detected less often than others. But WhatsApp constantly updates its detection, so no mod is ban-proof. Be sceptical of any site that promises otherwise.

How to back up your WhatsApp Plus chats

Unlike official WhatsApp, most mods cannot back up to Google Drive, because Google's backup is tied to the official app. WhatsApp Plus relies on local backups saved in your phone's storage. To make one, open Settings → Chats → Chat backup and tap Back up. The backup is saved in a folder named after WhatsApp or the mod inside your internal storage, often under Android/media or a WhatsApp folder, depending on the Android version and the build.

Transfer chats between WhatsApp and WhatsApp Plus

Moving your conversations from the official app to WhatsApp Plus, or back again, works through the same local backup. The key is that both apps must be able to read the same backup file, which is why the folder location matters. Follow the steps carefully and you will keep your full chat history.

   Go to Settings → Chats → Chat backup and create a fresh local backup.

   If WhatsApp Plus stored the backup in its own folder, rename or copy it to the folder name official WhatsApp uses, keeping the Databases and Media sub-folders intact.

Some newer builds include a built-in option to move chats back to official WhatsApp or to switch backup folders automatically. If yours has it, use it: it saves you from renaming folders by hand.

WhatsApp Plus colours: blue, green, pink, purple and dark

When people search for “WhatsApp Plus green” or “WhatsApp Plus pink”, they are usually looking for a different colour version of the same app. In practice, most colour variants are either the same WhatsApp Plus with a different default theme, or separate builds from other modders using a similar base. Either way, you do not need to install a new APK just to change colours: WhatsApp Plus lets you switch themes and colours from its settings.

• Blue (the classic) – the iconic WhatsApp Plus look that gave the app its “blue WhatsApp” nickname.
• Green – a style closer to official WhatsApp, for people who want the extra features without an unusual look.
• Pink – a soft pink theme that is especially popular in Latin America and the Middle East.
• Purple – a vivid purple header and bubbles, often paired with a dark background.
• Dark / black – a true dark theme that is easy on the eyes at night and can save battery on AMOLED screens.
• Gold – a premium-looking black and gold style offered as a theme in many builds.

WhatsApp Plus is not the only mod that is still maintained. Common WhatsApp Plus problems and solutions

Most WhatsApp Plus problems have simple fixes. Here are the issues our readers ask about most often, with the solutions that work in our tests.

“App not installed” error

This usually means one of three things: the APK is corrupted, your phone does not have enough storage, or a different build with a conflicting signature is already installed. Re-download the file, free up space, and if you are switching from another developer's WhatsApp Plus, back up your chats, uninstall the old build and install again. Also check that your phone runs Android 5.0+ or later.

“Your number is banned” message

If the ban is temporary, wait for the countdown to finish and then move to official WhatsApp using your local backup, as described in the temporary ban section. If WhatsApp says the ban is permanent, you can request a review from within the official app, but there is no guaranteed way to reverse it. Do not use tools or services that claim to “unban” numbers.

Can't restore the backup

WhatsApp Plus can only restore a backup it can find. Make sure the backup file sits in the folder the build expects, that it was made with the same phone number, and that it is not older than your current app can read. If you came from official WhatsApp with Google Drive only, first make a local backup in the official app. Our backup guide lists the most common folder layouts.

Verification code not arriving

Check that your number is entered with the correct country code and that your phone has signal to receive SMS. Wait for the timer and then choose “Call me” to receive the code by voice. Avoid requesting codes repeatedly, which triggers longer waiting times. If codes never arrive only in the mod but do in official WhatsApp, the build may be outdated; update to 18.80.

“This version of WhatsApp is outdated”

This message means WhatsApp's servers no longer accept your build's base version. The only real fix is to install the latest WhatsApp Plus over your current app. Changing your phone's date, as some old tutorials suggest, is unreliable and can cause other problems.

Stickers, photos or media not loading

Go to Android Settings → Apps → WhatsApp Plus → Permissions and make sure storage or photos and media access is allowed. Clear the app cache (not data), check your internet connection and make sure you have free storage. If only some media fails after a server change, a new build usually fixes it.

Notifications not showing

Many Android phones aggressively stop background apps to save battery. Exclude WhatsApp Plus from battery optimization, allow notifications in app settings and check that Do Not Disturb mode inside Plus settings is turned off.

WhatsApp Plus remains one of the most complete WhatsApp mods available. The blue design is iconic, the Plus settings are well organized, and features like anti-delete, hidden ticks, the theme store and better media quality genuinely improve daily use for people who want more control. The developer keeps the app updated, which is essential for a mod to keep working.

At the same time, it is an unofficial app with a real risk of bans, no Google Drive backups and no official support. Our verdict: WhatsApp Plus is a good choice for experienced Android users who understand the risks, download from a trusted source, keep local backups and, ideally, use a secondary number. If your main account is too important to lose, stay with official WhatsApp.
