Current status of YoWhatsApp in 2026
YoWhatsApp shares its fate with FMWhatsApp. Both were maintained in recent years by Fouad Mods, and both stopped at the same point. When our team checked the developer's channels again in September 2026, there was still no release newer than 10.10, and Fouad Mods' public Telegram channel was no longer accessible.

No announcement explains why development ended, and we prefer not to speculate. The practical point is simple: YoWhatsApp no longer receives a newer WhatsApp base, bug fixes or anti-ban changes. Any page advertising "YoWhatsApp 2026", "YoWA latest version" or a number above 10.10 is showing you either a renamed copy of the old build or a clone made by someone else.
What YoWhatsApp was and why it became popular
YoWhatsApp, or YoWA for short, was an unofficial modified WhatsApp for Android created by Yousef Al-Basha, one of the best-known early modders. When he stepped back, Fouad Mods took over the project, which is why later YoWA builds looked and behaved a lot like FMWhatsApp. The extra settings lived in a menu called YoMods.
Users loved it for a few reasons:
A built-in theme store plus support for .xml theme files.
Custom wallpapers for every chat or for the whole app, including your own photos.
Different emoji styles, including iPhone-like ones, depending on the build.
Hiding online status, blue ticks, typing and recording, with rules per contact or group.
Messages and statuses stayed visible even after the sender deleted them.
Cutting the app's internet connection without switching off mobile data.

Why you should not install "new" YoWhatsApp APKs
An abandoned app with a famous name is a gift for anyone who wants to spread modified APKs. People still search for it every day, so pages keep appearing with new dates, fake version numbers and download buttons. Installing one of these files is a bad bet for several reasons.
- Expired base: the real 10.10 build runs on an old WhatsApp version that can be blocked at any time with an expiry or "update WhatsApp" message.
- Relabelled files: many "new" YoWA files are the same old build with a fresh date and name.
- Clones with unknown code: some are built by strangers using the YoWhatsApp brand; you cannot know what they added.
- Malware: a fake messenger can read your chats, contacts and media, which is exactly what malicious uploaders want.
- Bans: outdated clients are easier to detect, so your number is more exposed.

Does the last YoWhatsApp version still work?
Some people still have YoWhatsApp installed and it may still open. That does not mean it is working properly or that it will keep working tomorrow. Without updates, the app is exposed to every change WhatsApp makes on its side.

GBWhatsApp
GBWhatsApp is the most natural move for YoWA fans. Its menu is organised in a similar way, it has a big theme library and per-chat wallpapers, and the Pro builds by AlexMods are currently at 18.80. AlexMods notes that recent builds cannot be used with numbers that are already banned.
WhatsApp Plus
WhatsApp Plus (18.80) comes from the same developer and release train. It is less overloaded than GB, with the recognisable blue look and all core privacy options. If a site offers a WhatsApp Plus version number that the developer never published, skip it.
OBWhatsApp
OBWhatsApp by Omar Al-Annabi is still updated in 2026. Its numbered builds (OBWhatsApp, OB2, OB3) let you run several accounts at once, and it is especially popular with Arabic speakers thanks to its careful translation.

How to move your chats from YoWhatsApp to another mod
Your messages are not locked inside YoWhatsApp. As long as you have a local backup, you can restore them in WhatsApp Plus, GBWhatsApp or the official app. Do the backup first, while the app still opens.
- 1Back up in YoWhatsApp
Open Settings → Chats → Chat backup and tap Back up. Wait until the progress bar finishes.
- 2Locate the YoWhatsApp folder
With a file manager, find the YoWhatsApp folder (often under Android/media on recent Android versions) and its Databases subfolder.
- 3Make an extra copy
Copy the entire folder to a computer, SD card or cloud storage so you have a safe copy outside the app.
- 4Rename for the new mod
Copy or rename the folder to the name the new mod expects, keeping its Databases and Media subfolders. Details are in our backup guide.
- 5Remove YoWhatsApp
Uninstall the old app only after you have confirmed your copy exists.
- 6Install an active mod
Install GBWhatsApp or WhatsApp Plus, allowing unknown sources temporarily.
- 7Verify and restore
Grant storage permission, verify your number and choose Restore. Afterwards, set up your theme, wallpaper and privacy options again.
If you built your own look in YoMods, use Save theme before uninstalling. The .xml file may load in another mod with a similar format, although some colours might need adjusting.

YoWhatsApp was a pioneer, and many of the features people take for granted in mods today started there. But it is discontinued, and the "new" versions you find are not real updates.
