How to change themes, colours and fonts

Last updated: August 2026 · 4 min read

Customisation is, alongside privacy, the main reason people install this mod. The famous blue WhatsApp Plus look comes from here: you can completely change the app's appearance using community-made themes without knowing anything about design.

Step by step

  1. 1
    Open the theme store

Tap the three-dot menu and choose Themes. You get a catalogue with thousands of options sorted by popularity.

  2. 2
    Pick and download one

Tap a theme for a preview and press Download. They take very little space.

  3. 3
    Apply it

Press Apply. The app restarts on its own and launches with the new look. Your chats are unaffected.

  4. 4
    Fine-tune manually

Under Settings, Universal style you can separately change the top bar colour, sent and received bubble colours, and the chat list background.

  5. 5
    Change the typeface

The same style menu lists available fonts with a preview before applying.

  6. 6
    Change the launcher icon

Look for the app icon option to pick a different one, useful if you want it to blend in among your other apps.

  7. 7
    Save your setup

You can export your combination as a theme file to restore after a reinstall.

Tips and warnings

  • If a theme leaves text unreadable, go to Settings, Style and use the reset to defaults option.
  • Downloaded themes survive mod updates.
  • A per-conversation wallpaper is set from inside that chat, not from the global theme.

Questions about this guide

Do themes slow the app down?

Not noticeably. They only swap graphical resources, not application logic.
