How to hide blue ticks in WhatsApp Plus

Last updated: August 2026 · 3 min read

The official app also lets you disable read receipts, but with a catch: hiding yours means losing sight of everyone else's. WhatsApp Plus removes that trade-off and additionally lets you apply the rule to selected contacts or groups only.

Step by step

  1. 1
    Open privacy settings

Tap the three-dot menu top right and go to Settings, Privacy and security.

  2. 2
    Enable "Hide read receipts"

Find the option in the list and switch it on. From that moment the blue double tick stops appearing for anyone messaging you.

  3. 3
    Configure exceptions

Just below you can choose which contacts or groups it applies to. Useful if you want certain people to still see that you read them.

  4. 4
Hide typing and recording indicators too

In the same menu you can disable the "typing" and "recording audio" notices, which give away your activity even when you do not reply.

  5. 5
    Check it works

Ask someone you trust to message you, open it, and confirm the ticks stay grey on their screen.

Tips and warnings

  • Unlike the official app, you still see when other people read your messages.
  • It is not retroactive: messages you already opened before enabling it keep showing the blue tick.
  • For voice notes the blue microphone is a separate confirmation; disable it on the same screen.
