Chat backup and restore
Mods do not always get along with Google cloud backup, so the reliable strategy combines two backups: the app's automatic one and a manual copy of the data folder. With both, changing phone stops being a problem.
Step by step
-
1
Open backup settings
Three-dot menu, Settings, Chats, Backup.
-
2
Choose what to include
Tick the video option to keep media. It multiplies both size and duration.
-
3
Run a manual backup
Press Save and leave the app open until the progress bar completes.
-
4
Schedule automatic backups
In the same menu pick a daily or weekly cadence so you do not have to remember.
-
5
Duplicate the folder by hand
Open the file manager, find the app folder in internal storage and copy it to an SD card, a PC or the cloud. This is the backup that genuinely saves you if the phone is lost.
-
6
Restore on a new phone
Install the mod first, copy the data folder to the same path on the new device, open the app and verify the same number. It will detect the backup and offer to restore.
Tips and warnings
- Always restore with the same phone number; a different one will not recognise the backup.
- Mod backups and official-app backups are not always interchangeable, so test before deleting anything.
- If you are switching phones, run the backup the same day so you do not lose recent messages.
Questions about this guide
Does the official app's Drive backup work with the mod?
Usually yes during initial setup, as long as you use the same number. If it is not detected, fall back to the local copy.
